5 Types of Massage
Spend a soothing weekend exploring the different amenities your local hotel spa and resort has to offer. Loosen those tense, tired muscles through the following massages:
1. Chocolate Massage
This is an exotic kind of massage that offers skin rejuvenation by coating the body with hot chocolate. The chocolate is believed to have a moisturizing ability that retightens the skin, salvages its lost youthfulness and eliminates stretch marks.
2. Reflexology
A 30 minute foot massage and a dip in a concoction of Chinese herbs, cream and water will surely make the difference after a day’s walking. Foot massages intend to relieve pain and stress, as well as relax aching muscles through the release of an invisible life force (known as Qi). Qi, by effect, promotes holistic healing.
3. Shiatsu Massage
This is a Japanese hands-on therapy that provides release of tension through the manipulation of pressure points, that are related to the central and autonomic nervous system. The body is massaged by using the fingers, palms and most commonly, the thumb. Shiatsu is a combination of “diagnosis and therapy” and it aims to promote and prevent disease by stimulating the body’s defenses, restoring internal functions and harmonizing the mind and body.
4. Thai Massage
Originally from Thailand, this type of massage involves a more aggressive approach to relaxation that combines kneading with movement. The Thai massage entails the performance of stretching and penetrating massages that loosens tight muscles.
This massage uses six styles (friction, petrissage, tapotement, compression, vibration, and effleurage) of long, flowing strokes to release tension and calm the mind. The Swedish massage improves blood circulation and reduces joint pain and stiffness.
