Chronic Stress – Is it safe?
If you are like millions of people today, you’ve noticed that life has gotten a much more stressful. From getting up on time in the morning, to dropping your children off at school, trying then to make it to the office and be semi “on time” is a burden that many of you face.
But what can you really do in order to remain poised, calm and in control will often times surprise you. Just taking little baby steps towards reducing your stressful experiences in life will add years to your longevity.
My daughter now gets her clothes ready for the next day, this evening. This is a great tip. It is a tip that many of you that comment on the blog suggested that you would adopt it. Not just for your children but for you and your spouse to. What you have here is just old fashioned common sense.
In the not to distant past, our home was filled with sharp energy and retorts as my daughter was having her hair combed and styled in the morning.
“Mom I didn’t want it like that.” Or the “I don’t want to where that color today” and various other discussions that if you have a 13 year old girl or teen you know what I am talking about. Lots of conversation and debate. Unfortunately, doing that at 6:00 in the morning when no one has eaten a thing can lead to hurt feelings because the words just fly out of our mouths just as quickly as the thought came into our brains.
So, set your child’s clothes out for tomorrow, tonight. Take it to the next level by doing this for each of your children and yourself included. Your spouse may have to fend for himself for now. But down the road a bit, it won’t be to tough for your to just lay out something for him to.
Chronic stress has invaded our lives and we now live in one of the most stressful times ever. Even though we are not officially at war as we were with Japan, Korea, or even Vietnam. The problem with stress is that it knows no boundaries.
If you have one computer at home and your child has to use it for a book report, research or even to just get the class notes for a day she missed or something, it is stressful giving up your personal computer so that she can satisfy her homework tasks.

I’ve liked this blog post and your previous one on teen stress. Good stuff. The economy causes so much stress on the hearts and minds of friends I know and people at church. This past couple of weeks we’ve had people come because they’ve lost their job.
I think one of the things I’ve been practicing is just taking a moment and breathing in the midst of it all. Looking for something wonderful in nature, etc.
I think too, spas are uniquely placed to offer some help in the stress relief arena. I would like to see more spas doing events focusing on stress. They could use the media to draw some attention in their local communities so that they could cover common sense ways to deal with that stress. Little things, like you mention, of getting one’s clothes ready the night before and breathing/stretching exercises. Cover things how stress affects the body and things we can do in response.
Because chronic stress is definitely not safe.
Thanks again for some great blog posts. I’ve grabbed your feed and will be following!
